Author Talk | Paul Dellinger
Rural Retreat Public Library
Join us on Tuesday, February 19 at 6:30pm for an evening with local writer Paul Dellinger.
Paul Dellinger is a retired newspaper reporter, having worked on a service newspaper in the Army and at The Roanoke Times in a variety of coverage areas for more than 40 years. During that time, he began submitting stories to fiction magazines and book anthologies. Many of them are collected in “Mr. Lazarus and Other Stories,” his second book (after the non-fiction “Don’t Look Up!”, co-authored by Danny B. Gordon, about Wytheville’s late 1980s UFO flap). He has done two other collaborations, “The Sky-Riders” (with Mike Allen) and “Fuzzy” (with Tom Angleberger), as well as “The Secret Invasion,” a book set at a science-fiction convention in Roanoke. As a youngster, he spent many happy hours watching weekend western movies and one result of that is his most recent book, “Gunfight at Gower Gulch,” which starts and ends in 1950s Hollywood but flashes back to the historic west. He and his wife, Maxine, live in Wytheville.
You can find all these books plus some containing his short stories by typing in his name on the Amazon site.
Wednesday Book Club
Wythe County Public Library
A book club for those who read the best of the best.
The librarians at WCPL have put together a fantastic reading list that is full of New York Times best-selling authors, and includes a Pulitzer Prize winner! Stories and themes cover a wide spectrum of reading preferences. From historical fiction in Post-Revolutionary Russia to a modern-day love story in South America. From a coming-of-age story in 1960’s American South to a fight for freedom in Antebellum South.
Every month, Wednesday Book Club members read a different New York Times Bestselling novel from the last 2 years (listed below) and discuss it at the meetings (every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10am at Wythe County Public Library). And for added fun, the library will show a movie after the discussion.

March (meeting Mar 20)

Finale Potluck | Wythe County & Rural Retreat Adult Winter Reading Program
Wythe County Public Library
Success! The Finale Potluck marks the end of the WCPL & RRPL Adult Winter Reading Program. With good food, live performances, and prizes, this is a true celebration for our patrons.
The library will have food and refreshments, with drinks provided by the Friends of the Wythe County Library. If you would like to add to the refreshments table, you may bring light finger food, like an hors d’oeuvre or dessert.
We have an entertainment line-up planned for the evening. There will be live music, a reading from local author Paul Dellinger, and a skit performed by a pair of local theater actresses.
And to finish off the reading program…prize drawings! Everyone who participated in this year’s Adult Winter Reading Program and turned in their completed book logs by February 25th is eligible to win in the prize drawing. Show up to the Potluck and find out if you’ve won!
There is still time left to participate in the reading program! Check out the details here and find out how you can win a prize.
